September 2010- 09/01 - Alleghany Historical Society and Museum at the C&O Depot - Come and visit us to see a piece of history!
- 09/04 - Douthat Labor Day Weekend Activities - Douthat's beach closes after Labor Day so come out one last time for beach games, nature and history programs, and other entertainment for all ages.
- 09/06 - Labor Day Celebration - The 65th annual Labor Day Celebration presented by the Covington Paperworkers Union - Festivities kick off at 12:00pm with a parade in downtown Covington. If you would like to participate in the parade, please contact (540) 962-5799 before 5pm on Friday, September 3.
Following the parade, the festivities will continue at the Jackson River Sports Complex. The Kountry Kickers clogging group will start things off, followed by The Locust Mountain Boys at 3:00pm, DynaFlow at 5:00pm, and Seven Mile Ford at 7:00pm. Those attending should bring a blanket or chair for seating. Concessions will be available all day.
From 2:00pm-6:00pm there will be activities and entertainment for the kids. There will be inflatables, air brush tattoos, games, and much more.
- 09/11 - CFMS Breakfast Fundraiser - All you can eat breakfast at Vic's Family Restaurant from 8:00 a.m. til 10:30 a.m. Adults - $8; Children (8 & under)- $5; Under 4 Free.
- 09/11 - Douthat Stewardship Virginia Waterways Cleanup Day - See how what you do in your backyard can affect neighbors downstream. This event is perfect for 4-H clubs, scouts, church groups, civic organizations, families and community volunteers wanting to participate in cleanup projects and promote the stewardship of our watersheds. Activities include stream and trail cleanup activities, children's programs and canoe tours ($5).

- 09/11 - YMCA Family & Friends Fun Day - Activities and games to celebrate friends and family at the YMCA. Open to the Community. 3:00pm-7:00pm with movie to follow. Food available - pizza,barbeque, ice cream
- 09/12 - Arts Council Season Kick-Off & Wine Dinner - The public is welcomed to join the Arts Council Board as they kick-off the 2010 season ticket sales campaign. An elegant dinner with wine pairing will be followed by top notch entertainment and a silent auction. Hirt Carriage House, WestWinds Ranch in Indian Draft.

- 09/13 - Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Classes - The Alleghany County – Covington unit of Virginia Cooperative Extension is pleased to announce the third Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program for residents of the Alleghany Highlands and adjoining counties. The session will be offered this fall on Mondays, beginning September 13 and running through November 22. Classes will be held in room 649 of DSLCC’s Armory from 6:00 - 9:30 pm. Two Saturday field trips will complete the course. Cost of the program is $100 which includes Master Gardener handbook, one year membership in the local Master Gardener Association and program fees. October 2010- 10/02 - WESTWINDS HARVEST FESTIVAL - Experience fall in all its splendor on one of the most scenically beautiful properties in the Allegany Highlands as the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council begins a new autumn tradition. Great music, a BBQ Contest, applebutter making, hay rides, horse shoes, blacksmith demonstration, animal adopt-a-thon, and many more activities beginning at noon and running until sunset at WestWinds Ranch, Indian Draft Road. - 10/09 - Douthat Apple Day: A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage - Enjoy crisp mountain air, beautiful fall foliage, and celebrate the fruits of fall. Enjoy a day in the park with apple butter making, games, pelt displays, campfire cooking, hay rides, traditional Appalachian artisan and craft demonstrations, bluegrass music, clogging and great food.
- 10/09 - Clifton Forge Main Street Jammin In The Theater Fundraiser - Clifton Forge Main Street will hold a theater concert as a fundraiser on October 9th. The Silverbacks will be the featured band. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Available at CFMS office, Owens Pharmacy and Country Garden Florists. Come enjoy great music from a local band!
- 10/09 - Alleghany Highlands ARTS COUNCIL Performing Arts Series - ROANOKE COLLEGE CHOIR & ORCHESTRA - Over 100 talented musicians help the Arts Council open its 58th season of top-quality perfomances with an evening of outstanding music. Curtain time is 7:30 pm at Covington High School's Curfman Hall.

- 10/31 - Alleghany Highlands Arts Council Murder Mystery Dinner - "THE AUCTION" - A wealthy heiress had died under mysterious circumstances and it's up to the dinner guests to solve the mysterry as they meet for the reading of her will. For reservations or more information, call the Arts Council at 962-6220.
November 2010- 11/06 - WINE TASTING & DINNER - Hosted by the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce - More details to follow.
December 2010- 12/01 - Douthat Ornament Making Contest - Students, 4-H club members, church youth groups and scouts are invited to compete in an event making ornaments out of natural or recycled materials. Ornaments are judged, and prizes are awarded in various categories. Schools may also contact the park for an outreach program related to the contest.
- 12/01 - New Work From The Joyful Brush - Exciting & beautiful new images by Virginia Lloyd-Davies of Fairfield, VA. Chinese brush painting in traditional calligraphic style along with contemporary Po Mo, a poured watercolor technique that dates to 6-7c. China.
- 12/03 - Clifton Forge Christmas Parade - The Clifton Forge Christmas Parade will be held starting at 7 p.m. in historic downtown district. Theme to be announced soon. Call Mary Cantrell at 862-4143 or Debby Faulkenbury at 862-2000.
- 12/04 - COVINGTON CHRISTMAS PARADE - Downtown Covington - Sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce - Parade begins at 6:00 pm, line-up at 5:30 pm. Parade theme TBA at a later date.
- 12/05 - Alleghany Highlands Arts Council's HOLIDAY SPECTATULAR 2010 - A huge cast of local performers will ring in the holiday spirit. Sunday Dec. 5 at 3 pm and Monday, Dec 6 at 7:30 pm at Covington High School.
- 12/11 - IRON GATE CHRISTMAS PARADE - Theme: Frosty the Snowman & Friends. Lineup at 12 noon - parade begins at 1pm. For more information call 969-8461
