The public is cordially invited to spend an evening with a very versatile artist, Knic Umstead. Sponsored by the Clifton Forge Public Library, the program will be held in the library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7. Admission is free.
A Clifton Forge native, Mr. Umstead is a painter, collagist, printer, illustrator and graphic artist who works from his studio in Christiansburg, Virginia. Knic believes that “art is a global visual language that supersedes the spoken word and is not reliant on a specific tongue.” His artwork, he says, “is a reflection on process, materiality, narrative and visual semiotics,” while his “focus is on color, visual illusions, texture, transparency and form.”
Working in series, Knic says he “explores different aspects of a particular process, gleaning knowledge from the experience and bringing aspects of that experience to future works.” He continues, “From naturalistic to non-representational, traditional to mixed and new media, when inspiration strikes, a multitude of avenues are available to select from.”
Knic will be showing work from several of his latest series. He will also share “process, intent, inspiration and a little bit of storytelling.”
Samples of Mr. Umstead’s work can be viewed at: https://www.instagram.com/knic_umstead/
Knic welcomes audience interaction. A question-and-answer time will conclude the program.
Light refreshments will be provided.
