The public is cordially invited to spend an evening with local author, Courtney Smith.  Sponsored by the Clifton Forge Public Library, the program will be held in the library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room.  It will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9.  Admission is free.

Ms. Smith’s debut book, “We Are All Average Joes,” is a good introduction for children to the different challenges other children may have.

Courtney, an Occupational Therapy Assistant, has primarily worked at a skilled nursing facility with the geriatric population.  “Also,” she says, “I have had the privilege of completing one mission trip to Jamaica to supply occupational therapy services to young adults.”  She has also completed one fundraiser called “Awareness in Alleghany” in order to help support two local families.

“All of these experiences,” Courtney says, “have really been an inspiration for me to write my first children’s book and for its main focus to be acceptance and inclusion.”  With her goal to “promote less stares and more cares,” she says, “I wanted to bring more light to the eyes of children of all the different peer circumstances that I see every day.”

Courtney concludes, “I enjoyed getting to work on this book with my Nan-Nan, Nancy Smith, but most of all sharing it with my small town.”

Ms. Smith’s program will conclude with a book signing.  Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
